Loans and requests

Use SCAD Libraries' loans and requests services to get books and articles you need, whether they are held at another SCAD location or at a library outside the SCAD system.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan allows you to borrow books or receive articles from libraries outside SCAD when the item is not owned by any SCAD Libraries location.

Eligibility

  • Current SCAD faculty, staff, and students with a valid SCAD ID at SCAD Atlanta or SCAD Savannah may request books and articles.
  • SCAD Lacoste and SCADnow faculty and students may request articles/photocopies delivered electronically.

Before you request

  • Check the library catalog first. SCAD-owned items cannot be requested through ILL.
  • Current textbooks are not eligible for ILL.

How to request through ILL

  • Use WorldCat to submit your request.
  • Plan ahead: delivery may take two to four weeks.

Important use guidelines

  • Borrowed materials cannot be requested on behalf of others.
  • ILL items cannot be placed on course reserves.
  • Articles received through ILL may not be shared.

Loan periods and renewals

  • Loan length is set by the lending library.
  • Items may be recalled at any time.
  • Request renewals through your WorldCat account (approval depends on the lending library).
  • Fines may apply for overdue or lost ILL items.

Request items from another SCAD library

Circulating books are shared across SCAD Libraries in Atlanta and Savannah. If an item is unavailable at your location, you may request it from another SCAD location.

Who can request

  • SCAD students, faculty, and staff at SCAD Atlanta and SCAD Savannah may request items.
  • Materials cannot be sent to SCAD Lacoste.

What you can request

  • Circulating books from SCAD Library (Atlanta) or Jen Library (Savannah) may be requested.
  • Items may be requested from your home library or from another SCAD library (with the exception of Lacoste).

How to request

  1. Find the item in the library catalog
  2. Click "Request" next to the title
  3. Choose your pickup location
  4. Select the copy you wish to request
  5. Watch for an email when the item is ready for pickup

What cannot be requested

  • Materials at the Lacoste Library
  • Special collections, reference, permanent reserve, and other non-circulating items
  • Course reserve materials
  • Entire issues of periodicals

Copyright notice

  • The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research."
  • If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use, that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
  • This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
