Borrow and renew

Access the materials you need and easily extend your lending period. Review loan periods, how to renew items, and policies around lost or damaged items.

Borrowing materials

All members of the SCAD community with a valid SCAD ID may check out library materials. Reference materials, course reserves, periodicals, and special collections are available for in-library use only.

Loan periods

  • Current students, faculty, and staff: Up to 20 items for 30 days with the option to renew three times if the item is not on hold
  • SCAD alumni: Up to five items for 30 days
  • DVDs: Up to two DVDs for seven days, with the option to renew once

Renewals

Materials may be renewed online through My Account or in-person at the library circulation desk.

An item may only be renewed if:

  • The item is not on hold for another patron
  • The patron has no outstanding fines

Lost or damaged items

Your account may be charged for items that are lost, damaged, or billed. Materials overdue by two or more weeks are considered lost and moved into billed status. Materials returned with significant damage cannot circulate and will be billed.

Accounts can be cleared by:

  • Returning billed items
  • Providing an acceptable replacement copy
  • Paying replacement fees through Student Accounts
